Triple Crown Exotic Wagering: Preakness Stakes Exacta Betting
Attempting to become an American legend, the Triple Crown Horse Racing Championship chase continues for Kentucky Derby winner Orb when he faces eight other thoroughbreds in the 138th Preakness Stakes on Saturday May 18, 2013. Boasting a $1M US purse, the second jewel of the Triple Crown goes 1 3/16 miles on what is expected to be a fast dirt course at Pimlico Racetrack in Baltimore, Maryland. Post time for the Preakness is 6:20 PM ET. Breaking from PP #1, Orb is a heavy favorite to set up a run for the Triple Crown in the Belmont Stakes.
Small field heads to the gate for the 138th Preakness
After taking on eighteen others in the Run for the Roses, Orb (1-1 to win with Bodog advanced wagering) will be facing a significantly smaller field of only eight other horses in the Preakness. The field will include Derby runners Mylute (5-1), Goldencents (8-1), Itsmyluckyday (10-1), Will Take Charge (12-1) and Oxbow (15-1). New challengers include Departing (6-1), Governor Charlie (12-1) and Titletown Five (30-1). After chasing a hot pace Oxbow finished sixth in the Derby, while Mylute improved in the stretch to finish fifth. Orb chased and caught them all.
Exacta Betting Strategy: Combine Chalk and Pups for a big pay day
While Orb was a 5-1 favorite in the Derby, second-place Golden Soul was 35-1, hitting a $2 exacta payoff of $981.60. With little value in a straight win bet on Orb, bettors hoping to cash in will be looking to the exotics. Will Take Charge was moving with Orb on the final turn until he ran into traffic and should be there at the end – perhaps even an upset choice at 12-1. We’ll invest in a $10 exacta box with #1 Orb and #7 Will Take Charge at the Bodog.ca Racebook!
