Taking a quick glance at the NFL team rankings, it’s kind of difficult to understand why Kansas City is sitting the AFC West cellar with a 1-7 record. Behind RB Jamaal Charles the Chiefs have the leagues third ranked rushing offense as they average 149.9 yard per game. A closer look at the numbers shows that lofty ranking to be a somewhat misleading statistic.
If you take away the 487 rushing yards gained by Charles & Co. against the Saints and Ravens, the Chiefs rush yards per game average drops to a pedestrian 118.6 YPG and they only have five rushing touchdowns. Atrocious play from the quarterback position (6 pass TD) and a defense that’s surrendering 30 PPG helps explain the Chiefs woeful NFL 2012 record.
