Stanley Cup Game Two Preview – Bruins @ Canucks
Goaltending was the story of Game One as Roberto Luongo of the Canucks and Tim Thomas of the Bruins dueled each other shot for shot.
Thomas made 33 stops while Luongo registered a shutout with 36 saves. The 70th shot of Game One was the winner, even though many of the previous 69 shots were high quality scoring chances.
Though they had six chances each, both teams struggled on the power play going 0-6 in Game One. That’s nothing new for the Bruins as they now have just five PP goals on 67 chances for a 7.5% success rate.
The Canucks not lighting the lamp on the power play was one of the main stories of the game. Vancouver has 17 power play goals in the 2010-11 NHL Playoffs. In Game One, they registered just seven shots on their six chances – expect those numbers to be better tonight.
Superstar twins, Henrik and Daniel Sedin, saw a combined total of 0:23 minutes of ice time during the Canucks six shorthanded situations. With the man advantage, the twins both logged 7:17 minutes of ice time.
Boston has to feel good about their effort, despite the loss, as they weathered the storm on the road. They dictated the play for most of Game One and a duplicate effort will be needed tonight, if they hope to steal Game Two and home ice advantage.

Despite a long layoff, for both teams prior to the start of the Cup Finals, there wasn’t any sign of rust as both teams played to near perfection in Game One.
The biggest question has to be; can the Bruins repeat their Game One performance? Based on their 25.8 power play percentage, the law of averages suggests that the Canucks won’t go scoreless on the power play tonight. Meanwhile, the Bruins will continue to struggle with the man advantage.
That should be the difference tonight, as the Canucks will head to Boston with a 2-0 series lead. This plays well into our series prediction of the Canucks winning the Stanley Cup in five games.
