White Sox @ Tigers: MLB Game Day Preview
Both of these teams limped into the MLB All-Star break as the White Sox lost four of ten games while the Tigers went 5-5 to close out the first half of the season. Detroit had a bit of an excuse as they were on a seven game road trip that ended with a 4-3 record. Chicago went 2-5 in a homestand against the Kansas City Royals and Minnesota Twins who have a combined 79-103 record.
In a rarity, Detroit gets back-to-back starts out of their ace, RHP Justin Verlander (12-4 2.15 ERA), who recorded his 12th win of the season in the Tigers last game before the break. The Vaporizer pitched 7.2 innings of six hit ball, with 12 strikeouts and no earned runs allowed, as Detroit squeaked out a 2-1 win over the Royals.
RHP Gavin Floyd (6-9 4.59 ERA) takes the mound for Chicago as he tries to halt a run of six starts without a win. Floyd has been brutal over that stretch as he has posted an 0-4 record with a lofty 6.14 ERA. That’s not a good thing when you are trying to counter the Tigers bats AND the best pitcher in baseball.
