2010 NFL Week 1 Picks Recap: 1-2 Result Not Great
We got caught in the hype that the 49ers were the class of the NFC West but they certainly didn’t look like it on Sunday. More surprisingly was the Bears playing decent defense in what turned out to be a low scoring affair at Soldier Field in Chicago.
Our Week 1 started well with the morning game but went downhill from there as we finished the week with a 1-2 record.
We got caught in the hype that the 49ers were the class of the NFC West but they certainly didn’t look like it on Sunday. More surprisingly was the Bears playing decent defense in what turned out to be a low scoring affair at Soldier Field in Chicago.
New York Giants -7
The Giants opened the New Meadowlands Stadium with a 31-8 rout of the Carolina Panthers. Though the offense looked shaky in the first the defense kept them in the game by constantly harassing Panthers quarterback Matt Moore.
Bad penalties and miscues by the Giants offense and special teams allowed the Panthers excellent field position throughout the first half. The Giants defense stiffened each time and while Carolina held a 16-14 lead at half time, it was a tenuous lead at best.
The Giants fixed what was ailing them during half time and cruised to a 31-18 victory as the Panthers self-destructed in the second half with four turnovers of their own to seal their fate.
San Francisco 49ers -150
The demise of the Seattle Seahawks and rise of the San Francisco 49ers both looked drastically over blown during this game in Week 1 as the Seahawks cruised to an easy 31-6 victory.
Trailing 6-0 in late in the second quarter the Seahawks went on a tear and scored 31 unanswered points. Much maligned quarterback Matt Hasselbeck threw two TD passes and ran for another. The defense also looked sharp as they held the 49ers to just 274 total yards and scored a TD of their own on an interception return early in the third quarter.
The Niners better get on track fast as the Super Champion New Orleans visit Candlestick Park in Week two.
Detroit Lions @ Chicago Bears – Over 44 PTS
In a game that looked more like follies than football neither the Lions or the Bears were able to generate much in the way of scoring in this one.
The Lions lack of defense showed as they allowed the Bears 473 yards of total offense but the Bears were stout on D giving up just 191 total yards.
What really killed the OVER bet though was the fact that the two teams combined to commit seven turnovers. The five fumbles and two interceptions were all drive killers and 44 point total came in under at 33 as the Bears escaped with a 19-14 win.
