MLB 2011 ALCS Breaking News: Tigers vs. Rangers Injury Update
With the 2011 MLB ALCS moving to Motown, without a day of rest for either Detroit or Texas, Game 3 may prove costly to both clubs. Sluggers Victor Martinez (DET) and Adrian Beltre (TEX) were both laboring in pain following play on Tuesday, October 11, 2011.
Detroit Tigers: Trainers Room Is Getting Crowded
While their 5-3 win in Game 3 gets Detroit back into the series, it may have come at a huge price. Already without sluggers Delmon Young and Magglio Ordonez, DH Victor Martinez suffered an injury, on his game tying home run blast, in the 4th inning last night.
Initial reports say V-Mart has a strained “intercostal muscle” and his status for today’s contest is questionable. Detroit Manager Jim Leyland said he was “concerned” by the injury as the Tigers are a hurting bunch. Martinez told clubhouse reporters he would play “The only way I don’t play tomorrow is if I wake up and I’m dead.”
Texas Rangers: First Significant Injury During 2011 MLB Postseason Play?
Texas, who have been healthy throughout 2011 postseason, also saw one of their star sluggers battle through injury during Game 3 on Tuesday. Adrian Beltre, while batting during the course of the evening, hit himself with at least three foul balls.
The second one was the worst, as it was hit hard and made contact just below his left knee cap. The injury is being reported as a left knee contusion. That will affect Beltres’ hitting stroke, as well as his mobility at the hot corner, if he plays at all during Game 4 tonight.
Game 4 of the 2011 MLB ALCS goes at 4:19 PM ET on Wednesday, October 12, 2011, from Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan. The Rangers lead 2-1 in this best-of-seven series.
