Top Five NFL Football Teams Ever
1985 Chicago Bears
One of the most feared defensive units ever, allowing only three points against in the month of November. They destroyed the opponents 456-198 on the year, as nobody could find a way to solve the rush of ‘the Fridge’. The Bears sailed through the playoffs and beat the Pats in the Super Bowl 46-10. Though the famous 46 Defence played such a huge part in the success, Walter Payton is widely recognized as the greatest running backs ever to step on a football field, and his ’85 season ranks among the best personal seasons with more than 1,500 yards. Acknowledging their own awesomeness as a team led by cocky QB Jim McMahon, they recorded theGrammy-nominated ‘Super Bowl Shuffle’ music video before the playoffs, and went on to win.
1972 Miami Dolphins
The only team to go undefeated a full season and right through the playoffs to win the Super Bowl, this gritty team led by Don Shula continues to find its way to the top of the list of best teams. Though their easy regular season schedule that year might be a counterpoint, their playoff run was difficult and they beat the odds, winning the Super Bowl as underdogs against the Redskins. Arguably the most famous team in all of American sport.
1989 San Francisco 49ers
With arguably the greatest offensive duo in NFL MVP Joe Montana and WR Jerry Rice, the ‘niners kiept getting better as the season rolled on. It was the dominance of the playoff run that blew opponents away and propelled the team to the top of these lists, and humiliating the Denver Broncos 55-10 in Super Bowl XXIV ultimately capped off the record-breaking season. Montana earned a quarterback rating of higher than 112, the highest ever up to that point.
2007 New England Patriots
The only other team with a perfect season (16-0) somehow managed to lose the Super Bowl to the New York Giants. A record-breaking 23 touchdown passes were caught by Randy Moss. Fifty were thrown by Tom Brady, breaking a record of his own. Eight Patriots were voted to the Pro Bowl that year, the most since 1985. The offence was unstoppable all season ,beating the opponents by 19 points per game. Super Bowl victory or not, the ’07 Pats earn a spot on the list with their record alone.
1992 Dallas Cowboys
During a dynasty every season is memorable, but this one was tops for the Dallas Cowboys, who won three out of four Super Bowls. The flair of Michael Irvin, the workhorse ethic of Emmitt Smith and the quarterbacking brilliance of Troy Aikman, this youngest team in the NFL were all a thrill to watch. Though not a flawless season (13-3), the team cohesion both offensively and defensively was unmatched around the league in that era.
